My Stand-up "Career"

I've been taking stand-up comedy lessons since November, and I've performed at two showcases and two open mikes. I'm OK, and I don't think I'll ever be spectacular.

This photo is from Quintessential in St. Charles, which was my fourth show. It was for charity - Wounded Warriors. It was a good crowd, and I did get lots of laughs.

Well, Mizzou went down...and my bracket went with it. SLU made a great showing, though.

Thomas Howell Cemetery

Stopped by Thomas Howell Cemetery in the morning to pick up a Geocache, and it was beautiful. I walked across the grounds to that line of trees. At one point, my foot sunk into the ground about a foot, and I screamed like a little girl. Too much "Walking Dead," sez me.

Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl 2012 #2

It's Super Bowl Sunday, and I promised myself that I would clean out my inbox during the game. Halftime just ended, and I'm still just tweeting about commercials with 1000 of my closest friends.

I have SIG AG scheduling to do, big time. I should get that done tonight...or Wednesday.

Tomorrow night is the stand-up showcase, and I'm still looking for that one last joke to cap off the set.

Here's my birthday photo for 2011. Out to Kinder's, on the Golden Eagle Ferry. I love this place - it's just bar food, but the view from the deck is wonderful - not to mention the hummingbirds.

Gethsemani - Arrival

Gethsemani 032

I flew into Louisville on a seering hot Friday, and within minutes was driving down to Trappist, KY, the home of the Abbey of Gethsemani - the oldest monastery in the US. My goal - to spend a four-day silent retreat and evaluate my life, backward and forward.

I came across the web page of the Abbey by Googling for something else - which is how I find all kinds of great stuff. It seemed perfect - no pressure, no activities, no talking. It's Catholic, but I found several blogs and reviews by people who, like me, are not members of that denomination. It's a completely open, loving facility.

I arrived at lunchtime, and found a note at the front desk that instructed retreatants to go have lunch, then come back to check in. I walked into the silent dining room and saw people eating in silence - one to a table - staring out the window into a lovely garden. In a way, the people in the dining room were also like a garden - each person very different, coming to the retreat with very different goals, thoughts, problems, lives.
